The Humplex: Way of the Future For Flash Gay-ming

It goes without saying that for the many gay men looking for naughty interactive games, the pickings are thin. Even interactive games geared for straight women, for us to at least play for naked men, are difficult to come by. Meanwhile, hundreds of quality games exist for the straight man and his known affinity to gaming.

While many could say "why waste the time, just go look at porn", there's something incredibly satisfying about spending leisure time going on an erotic illustrated adventure. In a sex game, the hilariously bad porno plots we all know and skip over to get to the good down-and-dirty sex becomes a ludicrously over-sexed world to immerse yourself in. In other words, you live the fantasy instead of merely watching it.

Recently, the gay flash artist of The Humplex has finally stepped up his game with his 3rd update to his flash game series: The Keric Komplex. While the first two were light fare and not as enjoyable as a typical flash game, The Keric Komplex 3 features three sex scenes, unlockable content, a sexy evil antagonist, hilariously clever pizza delivery innuendos, and a very entertaining plot. Though we must wait for following sequel games to continue the storyline, The Keric Komplex games are a step in the right direction for erotic gay-themed flash games that we've been lacking for the past ten years, all while straight boys got their fun.

I've been keeping an eye on The Humplex ever since their simple jerk-the-guy-off flash games that showed promise for more complex games in the future. My favorite is of Resident Evil's questionably gay hunk Chris Redfield, which you can play here. I love my Resident Evil, and watching all that splooge fly over his chest makes the fanboy inside of me giggle happily. Others include Wakka from Final Fantasy 10 and Hard Snake from Metal Gear X. Some ideological concerns have been raised that this is essentially simulated rape, as the characters are all gruff "straight" men that don't want to be touched. But this is a fantasy world that satisfies our lust for the hot straight characters we'd never see in a gay context. Plenty of "straight" characters exist in the world of gay porn only to end up bent over. Yaoi, the anime-styled gay cartoon, pits every character possible, gay or straight, into these sex situations just for the hell of it. We want to see them get it on, because in the canon, it would never happen. Just go on 4-chan to see every single cartoon character in history have sex with every other character in their world, only because someone thought it would be hot to see.

Speaking of Japan, they are the makers of the popular "Boy's Love Games", or yaoi games. Most tend to be of the slim, feminine-looking type, and even with the overt use of rape in some storylines... it's geared for girls. That's right, yaoi-loving girls. But even for gay men, games exist for them as well: Hunks Workshop (featured above) is one I've been dying to play but can't because, well, I don't speak Japanese. Of course, most of these games involve unlocking pictures through an interactive storyline, not actually sexually interacting like you do in The Humplex flash games. Regardless, these yaoi games are not accessible to English-speakers that want to play them, so there have to be alternatives here.

Several alternative are only just starting to pop up. GayRomeo has put up their fantastic Cruising Room (above), but nothing else appears to be coming from them any time soon. Some 3-D gay-ming has shown up from straight sex-game makers: the pay-to-play Bum Tropics by Soma Vision, 3D GayVilla by thriXXX, and a male strip poker game that may have infected my computer with the virus I got rid of. There's even the online cyber-sex world of Red Light Center, complete with a gay side of town. However, comparing this to the extensive plethora of straight sex games available, this is still not enough. The dating sim, a flash game with many hours of play where one builds stats slowly in order to date, seduce, and boink the subject, fill sites like Newgrounds, but have no gay alternative. The only gay games to show up on Newgrounds (aside from really poor quality or homophobic ones) have been those from The Humplex, and straight men boo and hiss at it with low scores when finally there is a sex game appealing to gay men. With the exception of Humplex, there are no signs that anyone is working to catch us up with the rest of the straight sex-gaming world.

The art is phenomenal, the men are hot, and the gameplay is free of bugs. It's clear the artist of The Humplex puts time and effort into his games, and it shows. And we reciprocate with hard-ons. I strongly support The Humplex and am very interested to see what it will offer in the future for a neglected demographic.
